Getting to our hospitals by NHS transport

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT) provides a free non-emergency ambulance healthcare transport service for patients who have a clinical and medical need for transport, where their current mobility needs would not allow them to use their own, or public transport to get to or from an NHS health care appointment.

This service is extremely busy, making around 700 journeys a day, therefore only people who meet the Department of Health clinical criteria for patient transport can access this service.

If your clinician or GP believes you may be eligible to use the healthcare transport service for your appointment, please call one of the following numbers with at least two working days notice prior to your appointment date.

Please call the number for the hospital that your appointment is booked for:

These lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. One of our call takers will take your details and ask you a few simple questions with regards to your health and mobility requirements and will inform you immediately if you are eligible for the service.

If you are not eligible, they will explain other ways for you to get to your hospital appointment. For example, if you are on benefits or certain allowances you may be able to reclaim your costs - please see the help with costs page on this website for more information.
