Chronic pain

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust provide a range of services for patients with chronic pain.

This webpage is intended to answer your questions about the services available from us, your treatment, the staff who will be treating you, and where you can find further information regarding your condition.


Outpatient services

  • Consultant-led general pain

  • Clinical nurse specialist clinics

  • Specialist nurse led TENS

  • Nurse-led and post procedure follow up telephone consultations.


Procedures

  • Facet joint injections/Denervations (for treatment of neck, upper back and lower back pain)

  • Epidurals (for treatment of sciatic pains)

  • Trigger point injections

  • Sacro-iliac joint injections

  • Guanethidine blocks for CRPS

  • External neuromodulation

  • Lumbar sympathectomies

  • Cancer pain management procedures

  • Spinal Cord Stimulators

  • Intrathecal pumps.


Clinics

Outpatient clinics are currently held at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate; William Harvey Hospital, Ashford; and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury, and Buckland Hospital, Dover.

Procedure lists currently take place at the William Harvey Hospital and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

We also have close links with the ICATS (Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services) pain service run by Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust, and as many of the staff work in both teams, patients who are referred from one service to the other have more continuity of care.
