The Rheumatology department consists of five Consultant physicians, six rheumatology nurse specialists, two Extended Scope Practitioners and a ST3 and ST2 doctor based at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital. Other allied health professionals include ESPs, Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a therapy support worker and links to community podiatry.

Meet the Rheumatology team in East Kent
Dr Philip Bull FRCP
Dr Bull trained at St Thomas' Hospital, London, qualifying in 1979, and undertook higher training both in Rheumatology and General medicine at the Charing Cross and Westminster hospitals. He was appointed as consultant rheumatologist in 1990, and provides outpatient clinics at The William Harvey Hospital, The Royal Victoria Hospital, Folkestone and Buckland Hospital.
Dr Bull is interested in all aspects of rheumatology including inflammatory joint disease, spinal pain and soft tissue rheumatism. He has a special interest in Joint Hypermobility, Gout and Osteoporosis.

Dr Ann Scott-Russell
Dr Russell qualified from St George’s hospital and trained in rheumatology in the Essex region. She is a consultant rheumatologist and general physician based at the William Harvey hospital in Ashford but outreaching into clinics at Royal Victoria hospital in Folkestone and Buckland hospital in Dover. She offers general rheumatology clinics at all three sites but is developing an early inflammatory arthritis service at the William Harvey hospital to include the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound. She also has a special interest in medical education.
Dr Denise De Lord
Dr De Lord qualified from University College Hospital, London in 1990 and completed her postgraduate training in the South Thames region. She was appointed as a consultant rheumatologist and general physician at the QEQMH in 2002. General rheumatology services are provided. Dr De Lord has a special interest in lupus and vasculitis and is educational and clinical supervisor for the ST3 and CT1 doctor. She is currently lead clinician for rheumatology, working on the development of a trust-wide early arthritis service and use of musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Therapies
Rheumatology Extended Scope Practitioners
Extended Scope Practitioners are physiotherapists who have extended their practice, in a specialist area, to encompass tasks that may previously have been undertaken by the medical profession.
Supporting clinics to Dr Withrington, are run for a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. In addition, specialist skills are provided in hand and upper limb and at the K and C a specialist clinic is run for patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Clinics are held at the Kent and Canterbury hospital and outreach clinics at Whitstable and Faversham hospital.
