Qualified in medicine at Cambridge University (clinical training Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel) 1988. Postgraduate training in medicine and nephrology was in London, predominantly Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital. Spent 2 years at the Necker Institute, Paris, doing immunological research for my MD. This was awarded by Cambridge University 1998 together with the Sir Lionel Whitby Medal. I was appointed a consultant at the trust in 1999. In addition to clinical responsibilities I have an interest in service improvement and 2006 - 08 was seconded part time to the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, as the clinical lead. The work involved reviewing management of patients leading up to transplantation or dialysis, across units in England and, spreading good practice.
