During her registrar training, Catherine became very interested in the field of perioperative medicine. She developed a perioperative service at Darent Valley Hospital along with a colleague and the support of the POPS service at Guys and St Thomas’ hospital in her final year of training. The service helped to improve length of stay and readmission rates in emergency general surgical patients and the results of this have been presented nationally. She initiated the POPS service at the Kent and Canterbury site in September 2019. The service currently serves emergency urology and both elective and emergency vascular admissions. The service sets out to improve the experience and outcomes for older and medically complex patients and provides education and support to the whole multidisciplinary team.
