The Cross Specialty Research Team at EKHUFT would like to kindly invite all to their next Live webinar event on Friday 5th March at 17.30-19.30 GMT. This is the 3rd event in a Live innovation series focused on sharing insight and understanding of vulnerable communities and active research, which supports gaining improved awareness of issues affecting them.

These research events are chaired by Dr Mohamed Sakel, FRCP, (Consultant Director Neuro-Rehabilitation Service) and hosted by Mr Sashi Kommu, FEBU, FRCSUrol (Consultant Urological Surgeon) in the Innovation Centre at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. On this occasion, the event will be introduced by Rosie Duffield MP (Canterbury) and welcomes Professor Mala Rao OBE, as our keynote speaker, who will talk about what COVID-19 has revealed about Racism in Medicine. Professor Rao is the Medical Adviser for NHS England (NHSE) Workforce Race Equality Strategy (WRES) Implementation Team and a Senior Clinical Fellow in Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College London. Professor Dr Anton Emmanuel (FRCP) will be speaking about his role as the appointed National Clinical Lead for the NHSE WRES standard.  We are also delighted that the Chair of the BMA, Dr Chaand Nagpaul, CBE, FRCGP, will speak on the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities, health care workers and services. Other guest speakers include Mr Ahmed Aftab, FRCS, (Consultant Eye Surgeon) and Karen Saunders (ARC KSS PhD student) who will both present updates on current active research projects. The event also includes contributions from Reverend Mike Walling (Ethnic Minority Independent Council, Canterbury), Mr Nitin Shrotri (Consultant Surgeon and BMA member) and 2 academics from the US.
