Safe Staffing Levels

We are passionate about ensuring we have the right staff, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time.

From June 2014, following a requirement from the NHS Chief Nursing officer and the Care Quality Commission, all hospitals are required to publish information about the number of nursing and midwifery staff working on each ward, together with the percentage of shifts meeting safer staffing guidelines. This initiative is part of the response to the Francis report which called for greater openness and transparency in the NHS.

To help us ensure our wards are safely staffed we are displaying boards for patients and visitors in all of our wards that show the planned and actual numbers of staff on each shift. We regularly undertake staffing reviews and each month we publish information about our staffing levels and provide a link to papers discussed in public at our Trust Board meetings.

Staffing reviews

We undertake annual reviews of ward staffing with updates every 6 months which are reported to our Trust Board.
