KENT endoscopy course receives international endorsement

Published 4 October 2022

The sixth KENT endosurgery course takes place this week, online and in person at the Discovery Park in Sandwich.

The free event will feature live surgery from the QEQM Hospital, and online lectures and cases from around the world including Australia, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Italy and the USA. There is also a third day of hands-on training at the University of Cambridge, with 30 places available.

This year’s event features a virtual reality experience where delegates can engage with live operations to enhance teaching.

It is organised by QEQM’s complex polyp team and has received endorsements from four national and international endoscopy societies.

The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the World Endoscopy Organisation, British Society of Gastroenterology and Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland have all advertised the course to their members.

Dr Zacharious Tsiamoulos, course director and Consultant in Gastroenterology at East Kent Hospitals, said: “This is the first time ever that an endoscopy course in the south east has obtained this type of acknowledgement and recognition worldwide.

“The course has become an extremely popular and prestigious event for our national and international delegates, and has gone from strength to strength over the past five years.

“It is the only endoscopy surgical training course dedicated to complex colorectal and oesophageal procedures, with live lectures, live endoscopy cases and face-to-face hands-on training experience.”
