From 2 - 8 June 2014 Arrhythmia Alliance will be holding its annual Heart Rhythm Week. To support the campaign, East Kent Hospitals Stroke and Cardiology staff are working in collaboration to raise awareness of Heart Rhythm detection, diagnosis and management within our hospitals.

On Wednesday 4 June we will be holding a stand in each acute hospital to provide information and advice. Come and visit us to find out more!

  • Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate - dining room 9.00 -11.00
  • Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury - dining room 12.00 - 14.00
  • William Harvey Hospital, Ashford -main entrance 15.00 - 17.00

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart rhythm disturbance, affecting in excess of one million people across the UK (although this is considered to be an under estimation due to difficulty in detection and delayed diagnosis). AF can affect adults of any age, but it is more common as people get older, affecting 10% of people over 65 years old. Left untreated, AF increases your risk of having a stroke by 5 times.
