Margate-based Acute Medical Consultant, Dr Sunil Lobo, has been recognised by East Kent Hospitals for his outstanding contribution to improving care for patients.
Dr Lobo, who is based at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM), specialises in ‘acute medicine’. Acute medicine is the management of adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions (such as breathing problems) who present in hospital as emergencies.
At the recent East Kent Hospitals Trust Awards, Dr Lobo was recognised in the ‘Excellence in Care’ awards category.
He said: “I’m so fortunate to work with such an amazing team at the QEQM, and I consider the award to be a shared success. When patients come to us, they need immediate medical attention and reassurance, so it’s a privilege to be responsible for their health and wellbeing.”
Dr Lobo added: “We assess the patients’ needs, and how we can ease their condition – often without the need to admit them to a hospital bed. I’m so pleased that we’re making a real and positive impact on patients’ lives, while also easing the pressure on our hospitals in east Kent.”
The work of Dr Lobo and his colleagues has gained a reputation for excellence far beyond Kent, with other NHS Trusts in England seeking advice.
“Many people look at the work we’re doing in East Kent Hospitals and draw upon our expertise,” said Dr Lobo. “That’s wonderful news for the NHS and for its patients.”
