East Kent Hospitals shortlisted for Research and Patient Engagement Awards

East Kent Hospitals has been shortlisted in three out of five award categories in a forthcoming awards ceremony that recognises outstanding research and patient involvement work.

The inaugural Clinical Research Network (Kent, Surrey and Sussex) awards are supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). This is part of the NHS that has a mission to make the NHS an internationally-recognised centre of research excellence. It also aims to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.

The award ceremony is a new initiative that has been set up by Clinical Research Network Kent, Surrey and Sussex (CRN KSS). It will provide a way for of recognising hard-working and high-achieving researchers, research teams, R&D departments and other research support functions from across the Kent, Surrey and Sussex region.

There are five categories which will celebrate success and reward achievements for the excellent work being undertaken across the region in relation to clinical research and innovation. 

East Kent Hospitals has been recognised in three categories:

• Outstanding Contribution to Research in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

• Outstanding Contribution to Commercial Research in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

• Outstanding Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activity. 

In the ‘category of ‘Outstanding Contribution to Research in Kent, Surrey and Sussex’, all three clinicians work for East Kent Hospitals. 

The awards presentations event is being held at Copthorne London, West Sussex on 31 January. 

Dr Tim Doulton, Director of Research and Innovation and Consultant Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist), who has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Research’ section, said: “It’s a great honour for me personally to be recognised in these awards. 

“More importantly, however, is the recognition these awards gives to many colleagues and our patient representatives who work tirelessly to make East Kent Hospitals the leading centre for clinical research in our county.”
