It was a happy hockey-day for the Lord Mayor of Canterbury when he made a festive visit to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital on Friday.
Cllr Terry Westgate, accompanied by the Sheriff of Canterbury, Cllr Jeanette Stockley, and her escort Cllr Ian Stockley, joined in a game of hockey with patients on Harbledown ward.
The activity was one of the ward’s regular sessions to encourage patients to get up and moving and enjoy gentle exercise, to help them recover more quickly.
The civic team, together with East Kent Hospitals Chief Executive Susan Acott and Chairman Stephen Smith, also visited the Cathedral Day Unit, where patients with cancer receive their chemotherapy treatment.
And they toured the renal department, learning about home dialysis and how the 300 specialist machines are kept in good order by the dedicated renal technical team.
Cllr Westgate said: “It was a fascinating visit and a joy to be able to meet patients and staff and wish them a merry Christmas.”
