Keep your eyes peeled for the Pink Lady® apple runners

We are delighted that Pink Lady® is teaming up with Kent-based running club Beginners2Runners for the second year, to raise money for Padua Children’s Oncology Ward at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent. Money raised will support the refurbishment of the ward, contributing to creating a space for both the children and their family members, from all over the East Kent area, to relax, play and spend quality time together.

They are offering six of their specially selected members a place in the prestigious Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 28th April. A Pink Lady® apple is included in all finishers’ recovery packs as they cross the finish line.

Running the famous 26.2 mile course will be an exciting, but difficult challenge for all of the runners, who will all be wearing the famous Pink Lady® apple costumes to run the race in. That is why Pink Lady® has teamed up with Team GB athlete and Pink Lady® fan Jazmin Sawyers to offer the six runners an exclusive training session, before the big race day, giving hints and tips on not only preparing for the marathon, but also controlling nerves and excitement on race day.

Padua Ward provides both inpatient and day care for children across east Kent up to the age of 16. The specialist ward provides separate areas for teenagers, children and babies. The expert paediatric team based there promote a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for children and their carers throughout their stay. This year, Pink Lady® has chosen the Padua Ward as recipients of the marathon fund raising as their Marketing Manager, Lynn Shaw’s son, was treated there for Leukaemia, and is now in remission.

More than 41,000 finishers are expected to cross the famous finishing line this year and a Pink Lady® apple is a much needed, natural sugar, energy boost for both the grown-ups in the mass race and the 2,500 11-17 year olds running the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon, who will also receive a tasty apple within their goody bag.

Check out the Pink Lady® website and social channels for more updates on our runners, where to donate and Jazmin’s training session tips over the coming months.
