Youngsters from Garlinge primary school spread smiles and festive cheer when they visited the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.

Members of the school choir toured some of the wards and performed by the hospital’s main entrance, as well as carolling as they made their way through the corridors, leaving a trail of delighted staff and patients in their wake.

The children were welcomed by the Rev Gerald Watkins, hospital chaplain, who told them they could play an important part in the care of patients.

He said: “You are not just here to sing, you are nurses too.

“Who knows, some of you may be here as nurses in the future but today you can all help nurture our patients and make them smile.”

Their repertoire included classics such as Once in Royal David’s City, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Silent Night, as well as more modern carols including Calypso Carol and Listen to me Mary.

The children received a small gift from East Kent Hospitals to thank them for their visit.
