There will be no shortage of festive cheer in a hospital children’s ward this Christmas, thanks to the efforts of hundreds of local children.

They have created special seasonal pictures to help brighten up Padua ward at the William Harvey Hospital for youngsters who need treatment over the festive season.

Staff made an appeal for the pictures – which are laminated so they can be cleaned – so they could decorate the ward in a Covid-safe way.

Play specialist Ailish O’Hara said they were amazed by the response.

She said: “We’ve been absolutely inundated – it’s been fantastic.

“Every day more and more pictures arrived, and they are so beautiful and colourful that the ward looks amazing.

“We received so many that we are putting them up in the corridors too so that people in other areas of the hospital can benefit as well.

“We’d like to thank every single person who sent us a picture. It is so lovely to know we have the support of our community as we try to make poorly children smile this Christmas.”

Pictures were submitted by local schools and youth groups, including Cubs and Brownies, as well as by individual families.

Staff from 2gether Support Solution helped display them around the hospital.
