A young singer who spent a week in hospital with colitis has created a special video to say thank you to the NHS teams who cared for her.
Hollie Firmin, who appeared on ITV talent show The Voice Kids in 2017, is now studying at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford.
But she moved back to Herne Bay at the start of the pandemic, and fell ill during the first lockdown.
She said: “I was sent to the William Harvey Hospital with suspected appendicitis and spent seven days there. The nurses and doctors were so caring and helpful and explained things in a way I would understand.
“I was swabbed for Covid multiple times which was reassuring, and everyone was really professional but also loving and supportive as well.”
Hollie, 18, was diagnosed with colitis and received antibiotics and was soon on the mend.
She has another link with the hospital, as her mum Emma is reception manager for the emergency department.
Hollie said: “I’m incredibly proud of her and her team. I see only a fraction of the work they do in A&E but I know they work so hard and they pressure they are under can be immense. They truly are heroes.
“I wanted to make the video to say thank you. The NHS, even more so now, is under so much pressure and with Christmas it felt like the right thing to do. I’m so grateful for all their help and hard work. We wouldn’t be the country we are without them.”
