People across Thanet who need outpatient therapy services can now be treated in a specialist unit with purpose-built facilities.
The Sarre Unit at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother hospital in Margate houses a dedicated gym, treatment rooms and assessment bays.
The light and airy building is home to East Kent Hospitals’ outpatient therapy team, who provide musculoskeletal physiotherapy, hand therapy and rheumatology treatments.
Chief Nurse Amanda Hallums cut the ribbon to officially open the unit and thanked the project managers and building team.
She said: “This is going to make a massive difference to our patients and to services for people in Thanet.
“Our teams already give the best care and now they have this great new environment to work in.”
Work started in December and the first patients were seen in the new space at the end of January.
There are plans for even more improvements, with an outdoor gym suggested for the garden area.
Sally Hall, Clinical Director, said: “It has been a fantastic transformation and the project team and our builders have done a tremendous job.
“The whole team are really excited about using the new space and it will allow us to provide excellent care to every patient to help them recover after injury or surgery and to improve their physical health and wellbeing.”
