Neighbours have been shelling out in donations to NHS charities thanks to the creativity of an Ashford schoolgirl.

Ellie Taylor, nine, was inspired by Captain Tom Moore to raise money for the NHS and decided to use her time in lockdown painting shells and pebbles with rainbow designs.

The Year 5 pupil at Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary School in Wye displayed them outside her home, encouraging people to pick up a pebble and make a donation.

She said: “I saw Captain Tom Moore on the television and was inspired to do something myself to help out.

“People have been so generous with their donations.”

So far Ellie has raised more than £200 for NHS Charities Together.
