An author has gifted a copy of her first picture book to children’s wards across east Kent.

Claire Wallis wrote PS Thank You So Much with the help of her children Isla, eight, and Maisie, seven, as a way of thanking keyworkers for their services during the coronavirus pandemic.

It was inspired by her children’s love of writing letters, and features a little girl writing thank-you letters to different key workers.

Claire, who is a secondary school teacher in Ashford, said: “I asked the girls if they would like to illustrate the book and they jumped at the chance.

“The book was written, illustrated and published within four weeks.

“After publishing, the girls and I decided we wanted to give our books to our local keyworkers, so we delivered cake to our fantastic refuse collectors – described as superheroes in super-bright jackets in the book – and they were thrilled to be recognised.”

The girls were honoured by the Girlguiding Association and received the Commissioners’ Thank You badge for their work on the book.

The book is available on Amazon, and you can find out more by following Claire on Instagram at @clouisewallis_childrens_author or searching for C Louise Wallis Children’s author on Facebook.

Claire is hoping to do live video readings to poorly children on the wards at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent and Canterbury Hospital and William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
