Parents celebrating the arrival of a new baby received an extra-special book donated by a local author.

Alisa Yingling donated almost 400 copies of her book, The Baby Files, to maternity teams at East Kent Hospitals.

They were handed out to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and infant feeding co-ordinator Kate Lynch said they proved a huge hit with families.

She said: “The books are really lovely, and are suitable for all families as they don’t assume traditional gender roles or that every baby has a mum and a dad, for example.

“They are a really special keepsake that parents can fill in with their babies’ milestones and pictures and brought smiles now as well as in years to come.”

The books were donated by Alisa, who lives in Ashford, to the Friends of the William Harvey Hospital but she was happy to share them with parents at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate as well.

Friends manager Jill Barringer said: “We are so grateful to Alisa for her kind donation.

“The books are absolutely stunning and I’m sure they will be treasured by everyone who received one.”
