Surgeons at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate will stream 10 operations live across the globe as part of an international training course.
Staff at the QEQM, run by East Kent Hospitals, are holding an international course in endosurgery, including live-streaming the procedures using an endoscope – a thin tube with a camera on the end that gives surgeons a close-up view inside the body and treat precancerous lesions.
The two-day course, endorsed by the British Society of Gastroenterology, will also feature live cases and lectures from America, Spain, India and Japan.
Dr Zach Tsiamoulos, East Kent Hospitals’ endoscopy lead, and a consultant in gastroenterology, said the team was looking forward to showcasing their skills.
He said: “This event builds on our first virtual event last year, which proved incredibly popular.
“The course has gone from strength to strength over the years and thanks to technology we are able to continue sharing our knowledge and experience with colleagues across the world.
“This year we are able to reintroduce some face-to-face training as well and we expect it to be very popular with medics and surgeons across the globe.
“It is a unique collaboration between gastroenterologists and surgeons and I would like to thank everyone involved in making it possible.”
The training focuses on complex lesions in the colon and rectum and how to detect and treat the using an endoscopy.
There will also be sessions on the use of Artificial Intelligence and technology, as well as practical tips.
The virtual element of the event takes place on 29 and 30 September, with face-to-face training on 1 October.
