Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive programme of exercise, education and psychosocial intervention which has been proven to speed up the recovery process and reduce the chance of having future heart problems. The Cardiac rehabilitation nursing team are based in the community.

All patients that have had a heart attack and or any stenting or surgery on the heart are referred for cardiac rehabilitation to allow them a graded full recovery back to normal. Initially the process of rehabilitation starts in our hospital with lifestyle advice. Further exercise classes and rehabilitation are carried out at local hospitals with the aim of returning patients to work and full activity. Alongside all these investigations and treatments there is continued assessment of medical treatments.
