At East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust we diagnose and treat a full range of heart disorders, including:

  • coronary artery disease

  • cardiac arrhythmias

  • cardiac failure

  • stable angina

  • heart attack

  • unstable angina

  • valvulvar heart disease

  • cardiomyopathies

  • syncope

  • black-outs.

We also insert pacemakers and implantable devices.

Procedures and tests we can offer

  • Trans-oesophageal echocardiogram - a procedure to assess the structure of the heart.

  • Cardioversion - a procedure to correct heart rhythms.

  • Angiography - used to diagnose the efficiency of the blood supply to the heart.

  • Angioplasty - a procedure to treat narrowing of the arteries surrounding the heart (currently available at William Harvey Hospital only).

We have invested heavily in our heart services over recent years to bring you state-of-the-art facilities for heart procedures at the East Kent Cardiac Catheter Suite (William Harvey Hospital, Ashford) and the Heart Centre (Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate).

We provide an extensive cardiac rehabilitation programme for people who have suffered heart attacks or have had any surgery on the heart.

Dr Duarte Williamson trained in Colombia and worked as a consultant dermatologist for 5 years before moving to the UK. She was recognised and appointed as a consultant in the UK after passing the English and Medical exams and worked as a specialty doctor and locum consultant in different hospitals in the UK for 4 years. She was appointed a substantive consultant in Frimley Park Hospital and worked there for 3 and a half years. She moved to East Kent in 2011 attracted by a well established and friendly Dermatology department plus the beautiful Kent countryside.
 
 
Dr Duarte Williamson runs general clinics in Canterbury and Margate, a weekly skin cancer clinic, skin cancer surgery and paediatric dermatology as well as the severe psoriasis and biologics clinics which she leads.
She is very engaged with the British association of Dermatology in various committees, enjoys teaching and coordinating the Registrars training program with the the deanery  and participating in the research projects within the department.
 
 
Dr Williamson is a member also of the European academy of Dermatology and the American academy of Dermatology and continuously attends actualisation courses to keep up to date with the developments of the specialty.
