Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology provides minimally invasive procedures, using image guidance to access and treat different parts of the body

Endovascular procedures, often described as ‘pinhole surgery’, consist of flexible plastic catheters being navigated through blood vessels using the body’s arterial tree, as a ‘highway’, to gain access to areas which can otherwise only be reached by making a surgical incision.

As there is very little pain, patients may be awake during the procedure and return to normal activities very quickly.  Patients may be admitted as an emergency due to serious illness, injury or urgent surgery, or admission may be planned for elective procedures.

About us

We are a regional centre of excellence, treating around 1200 patients every year. Currently construction is underway of a second hybrid suite with a third one in the planning. Each suite will provide facilities to ensure we can respond to the specialties based at EKHUFT, whilst the three together will respond to the needs of all our patients.

We have a highly specialised team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals. Additionally, we have a number of very important staff such as our administrative staff who support both the activities of the team and provide a welcoming face to visitors.
