Step 1
The person registers with their preferred voice banking provider and ensures they have thee correct recording equipment.
Step 2
An initial calibration/screening test will take place to establish whether the recording environment and microphone are suitable.
Step 3
If the test recordings are suitable, the person can continue to record the remaining phrases. If not, the process may need repeating.
Step 4
Payment is arranged.
Step 5
The person can download their voice onto a communication device or a communication app and start using it. A speech and language therapist can help with this.
The MNDA supports people with a confirmed diagnosis of MND to bank their voice. They loan equipment and can fund voice banking fees up to a certain amount. For people who are self-funding and need to purchase a microphone the website of their chosen voice banking company will advise on suitable ones to use. As a rough guide they cost about £30-40 and can be obtained e.g. from Amazon.
