Sleep Service

At East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust we diagnose and treat obstructive sleep apnoea/sleep disordered breathing.

The Respiratory Sleep services in east Kent are based at Margate (QEQM), Dover (BHD), Canterbury (KCH). The service is an outpatient service.

A diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea is made by way of a domiciliary sleep study, where you attend the department to collect the sleep monitor, take it home to wear whilst asleep that night, and return the monitor back to the department the next morning.

If your test is positive, you will receive an appointment to discuss the results of the test and treatment options. These may include self-help recommendations – including lifestyle changes, trial of mandibular advancement splint or CPAP therapy.

If you require a trial of CPAP therapy you may be issued with the equipment on the same day.

Review of CPAP therapy is usually performed remotely by either telephone, or video consultation.  If necessary following telephone or video consultation you may be offered a face-to-face appointment.

The service is led by a Senior Respiratory Physiologist, who is supported by a skilled team who work across all the sites.
