How do I make, amend or cancel my outpatient appointment?

Referrals are received either from the GP or the Consultant

If you need to change or cancel your appointment please contact our Outpatient Appointments team on 01227 864202.

To ensure that waiting times are kept to a minimum we have a policy whereby if you fail to attend an appointment and do not contact the department within two working days of that appointment, you will be discharged. You will also be discharged if you cancel your appointment on two occasions without giving two working days notice.

What will happen at my appointment?

We will ask you some questions about your symptoms and medical history. Then, with your consent, we may examine your joints, muscles and other tissues. During the assessment you may be asked to remove some items of clothing so we can look at the way you move. Please bear this in mind when deciding what to wear. You may wish to bring shorts, for instance, if you have a back or leg problem.

Both you and the physiotherapist have the right to request a chaperone for all or some of the treatment sessions. If you require a chaperone please let us know when you make the appointment as we may need time to organise this.

At the end of the examination we will explain our findings and management plan.

What do I need to wear/bring?

  • A list of any medications you are currently taking

  • Reading glasses if you need them

  • Anyone under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult for at least their first appointment

  • Please inform us of any in-dwelling medical devices such as pacemakers

  • If you have been referred directly into an exercise class please ensure that you have eaten that day

  • If you have been referred to Aquatic Therapy please remember to bring a swimming costume and towel, and please remove any make-up before going into the water.
