I’m proud to lead our fantastic East Kent Critical Care team, and of the reputation we have developed for training, education and pastoral support as well as cutting edge clinical care.
We have a friendly faculty of consultants with a broad range of specialist interests, from point of care ultrasound and echocardiography, advanced ventilation including automated modes to research and education. We are constantly reviewing our processes and looking for new ways of working and clinical innovation.
Education and pastoral support is a strong feature here. All of our consultants are trained educational supervisors and the training programme director for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery is one of our consultant colleagues which puts us in a strong position to provide the best support to our trainees.
Over the years a number of trainees who have rotated through our units have returned as consultants (myself included!). The fact that people want to come back to work with us substantively demonstrates just how strong a team we are and how exciting East Kent Critical Care is to be a part of.
It’s a hugely exciting time to join the East Kent Critical Care team, as we are planning to open a brand new, state-of-the-art 24-bed intensive care unit in the spring of 2021. The Kent and Medway Medical School has also just opened, and offers a unique opportunity to align with them not only from an educational perspective but also to help broaden further our burgeoning research portfolio, we are keen to offer posts with Programmed Activities (PAs) in education or research.
The William Harvey Hospital is a Level 2 Trauma Centre and is the Kent and Medway centre for pPCI and major head and neck surgery and as such we see a wide range of patients and work closely with colleagues from other departments, including regular joint governance meetings.
But we also have a lot of fun, with regular social events and team building. East Kent Critical Care is a really friendly and supportive place to work with a vast range of opportunities for doctors of all levels who join us.
