CTU Facility

The CTU research facility at QEQM Hospital, Margate provides a welcoming, comfortable and safe environment in which patients and volunteers can participate in clinical studies.

The facility is the ideal flexible environment for research to take place, where research staff will work alongside clinicians, holistically, to see their participants at agreed appointment times.

The area includes:

  • A 4 bedded, fully equipped wardthat is specially designed for day appointments and over-night stays, if required.
  • A separate clinic room to see participants in a private and confidential setting.
  • A dedicated sample-handling lab, run by trained staff, for processing and storing various research samples including blood and tissue. The lab is equipped with a fume cupboard and a refrigerated centrifuge together with temperature-controlled refrigerators and freezers (4 degrees, -20 and -80 degrees) to ensure that samples are stored correctly and securely.
  • A clinical preparation and medication storage room, with a refrigerator and freezer plus a controlled drugs cupboard for the storage of medications as required.
  • A temperature controlled lockable cupboard for medical devices that need to be stored within a set temperature as per study protocols.
  • A waiting area with food and drink facilities
  • A CTU office for use by research staff, consultants, clinicians and external bodies to liaise and discuss research with the aim to improve clinical and healthcare practice.
