Library Staffing Notice

Updated Thursday 2nd April 2020

Due to an urgent change of use, the Libraries at Kent & Canterbury Hospital and William Harvey Hospital are no longer accessible. This means there is no access to any books, journals, or computers.

  • The Library at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital remains open from 08:30 - 17:00 (Mon - Fri) but is unstaffed. Access outside of those hours is via 24-Hour key fob.
  • Self-service loans are available at any time in the library at QEQM, and paper sheets to record your loans are available on the library main desk.
  • Loan periods will be extended for two months for all users - if you wish to renew your books, please email your library and this will be arranged for you. You can find all of our email addresses below this message.
  • No fines will be charged for overdue books until further notice, so do not feel under pressure to come on site specifically to return your books.
  • You can still request articles from us, but supply may only be if the item is available via online access, as we will not have access to our print holdings network.

You will still be able to access our extensive suite of online resources such as UpToDate, DynaMed, BMJ Best Practice, ClinicalKey and more, using your OpenAthens account. Find out more

During this period, library staff are working from home. Email your usual site library below and we will be in touch with you as soon as we can:

UpToDate is back!

We are pleased to announce that EKHUFT OpenAthens users and staff are able to access UpToDate once more.

You will be able to log in from anywhere by going to uptodate.com/login and choosing the 'OpenAthens Log In' link. Enter your credentials and you will be given free full access.

Alternatively, when using an EKHUFT-networked PC, you can access UpToDate without having to log in by selecting the icon in your app launcher. This will give fast access to UpToDate's content, but you will need to log in with your OpenAthens account additionally if you want to record CME credits.

Please note that UpToDate is only available to OpenAthens users whose accounts are registered to East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, as well as every EKHUFT staff member.
