Scans and x-rays
CT scans
MRI scans
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which uses a very strong magnet, radio frequency waves and a sophisticated computer, to produce detailed images not available from conventional x-rays. Fluroscopy scans
Fluoroscopy is a radiological technique, which gives a real time video image on television monitors using x-rays. It is useful for seeing dynamic bodily functions, such as the swallowing action.
Ultrasound (non-pregnancy)
Ultrasound images complement other forms of scans and are widely used for many different parts of the body.
X-ray
Plain film radiography or x-ray examination is having an image taken of part of your body using x-rays.
Blood tests (phlebotomy)
Blood tests are carried out on all three of our main sites; Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital and William Harvey Hospital.
Breast screening
The NHS Breast Screening Programme offers a free breast screening service every three years to women aged between 50 and 70 who are registered with a GP.
Endoscopy
Bowel screening
Screening is currently undertaken at The Kent and Canterbury Hospital only but within the next two years the program will be rolled out across the Trust to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital and William Harvey Hospital.
