Guidance on Board meetings held in public
The guidance document provides information about attending one of our Trust Board meetings which are held in public.
A meeting in public is where members of the public can attend to observe a formal meeting of a Board. As such, observers can see the Board in action and the decisions it makes but are not allowed to join the discussion, or take part in the meeting in other ways. (This is clearly different from a public meeting, which is usually on open forum where the public can express their views and discuss issues, usually on a specific topic).
However, where the Board is meeting in public, members of the public are able to ask questions at the end of the formal business. If you would like to ask a question, it would be helpful if you could do so in advance. This allows us to group similar questions together, answer as fully as possible, and make the best use of time.
Good practice and etiquette for attending Board of Director meetings virtually
Please mute your microphone. We ask that all members of the public attending the meeting mute themselves to avoid background noise interfering with the meeting.
Please disable your video. We ask that all members of the public attending the meeting disable their video to limit distraction.
There is the opportunity at the end of the meeting for members of the public to ask questions. We ask that all members of the public attending the meeting wait until the Chairman welcomes questions from the public. You can enable your video and either raise your hand or electronic hand to make the Chairman aware you wish to ask a question, and unmute yourself when invited to ask a question.
Members of the Board will enable their video and will unmute themselves when invited to ask a question.
Thank you for agreeing to this etiquette and for your interest and attendance at our public Board meeting.
