Join our Emergency Department

Our vibrant Emergency Departments at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, offer an exciting and supportive environment for ambitious professionals who are passionate about emergency care and want to work at the top of their game.

We secured £6.42m in national funding for new observation wards at both departments and a further £7m to increase the size of the departments in 21/22. We are investing significantly in medical, nursing and support staff throughout the emergency floor, including specialist paediatric nursing.

We have 24/7 access to CT and stroke thrombolysis, and benefit from interventional radiology services in our sister hospital at Canterbury. William Harvey Hospital is the primary PCI hospital for Kent, and has trauma unit status. We are part of the top-performing South East London, Kent and Medway Trauma Network, with the local major trauma centre being King’s College Hospital.

We have an integrated front door staffed by our own team of GPs and emergency nurse practitioners that sits within the footprint of the emergency floor, alongside ambulatory care and our clinical decision unit.

We firmly believe that developing our staff is key to success; we have a dynamic and progressive training and development ethos, which includes our Acute Care Practitioner programme and an Inter-professional Faculty of Urgent and Emergency Medicine

We are a leading Trust for use of technology. We are introducing electronic bed management and benefit from real-time reporting of up-to-date information for every patient, plus point of care testing. We are the first Trust in the country to have a specialist intravenous access team in our emergency departments.

We have opportunities for consultants and specialist doctors, with options to combine emergency medicine with other clinical specialities or education; physician associates; advanced clinical practitioners, staff nurses, paramedics, emergency nurse practitioners, practice development nurses, associate practitioners and healthcare assistants. If you are a pharmacist or therapist with an interest in emergency care then we’d like to hear from you too!
