Lost Property

Update January 2023

Please note the PALS service is experiencing high demand and this may impact on the team’s ability to be as responsive as we would like. Please bear with us; we will respond to you as quickly as we can.

We ask patients not to bring valuable items, jewellery or large sums of cash in to hospital, to reduce the risk of items being lost or damaged.

We realise some items are essential, such as glasses, dentures and hearing aids.  If you have any of these items with you, please make sure the nursing team are aware and you are given a purple sensory box, with your name on, for storing these items by your bedside while you are in hospital.

East Kent Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is unable to accept responsibility or any liability for damages suffered or any loss caused to personal property while on our premises, unless the property has been signed for and handed to staff for safekeeping.  In most cases, if you had capacity (i.e. were aware and able to make decisions for yourself), you will be responsible for any belongings not handed over to staff for safekeeping, this includes mobile phones, tablets and jewellery.

In the unfortunate event that any items in your care go missing, we will consider reimbursement on a case by case basis.  If you wish to report any lost items on one of our hospital sites, please complete the form below to our PALS team:
