Library and Knowledge Services

Facilities

Our Education Libraries all feature a range of IT systems and facilities to help you with your work or study.

Computer access

Each Library features open access computers which are available for use by all staff and students employed by East Kent Hospitals Trust.

  • EKHUFT staff and students – log into a PC using your SmartCard or Active Directory username and password.

  • External staff without a login – we have laptops available with generic login-free accounts, featuring internet and Office access. Ask in your site library for more details.

Wi-Fi networks

You can use Trust-issued laptops and other devices on the main ‘EKHUFT’ wireless network – they will connect automatically.

For personal devices, you can log on to the free public network using the following credentials:

  • Network ID: EK-Hospital-Free-Internet

  • Password: hospital

Eduroam is also available to use if you have access via your university or other education institution.

Scanning, printing, and photocopying

Each Education Library has an MFD (multi-functional device).

  • Scan to email – scan documents to your NHSMail email address.

  • Print – send documents to print from any computer, selecting the printer FollowMe on ekprint, then log in to an MFD to retrieve your printing.

  • Photocopy – copy documents via the document feeder or scanning area.

Study areas

Each library has study space throughout, whether you are using a desktop PC or laptop. Although the main computer areas are not designated quiet areas, we do have some quiet zones at each library:

  • Canterbury – the main book room is a designated quiet zone, and features tables for studying and laptops.

  • Ashford – there is currently no designated quiet zone at Ashford, but we do maintain the main book area in the library as a study space.

  • Margate – the designated quiet zone is available to the rear of the main library and includes a quiet pod for further studying, learning, and meetings.

While in the Libraries

  • Food is not permitted – we don’t allow food anywhere in the libraries, but we do allow bottled water and other drinks, as long as they are covered.

  • Please take calls outside – please consider other users and take phone or video calls outside, unless you have an IT issue and need to be at a computer.

  • Please use headphones – if you need to play audio or video content. If you don’t have any, free earbuds are available from Library staff.
