The Rheumatology department consists of seven Consultant physicians, six rheumatology nurse specialists and a ST3 and ST2 doctor based at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital. Other allied health professionals include ESPs, Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and links to community podiatry.  The team are based over the 3 main hospital sites and hold clinics on those sites and also offer appointments in clinics held in the community.

Dr Farhan Bari - Lead Consultant

Dr Bari completed postgraduate specialist training in Rheumatology in Wales and was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist at Kent & Canterbury Hospital in September 2015. He has special interest in inflammatory arthritis including Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriatic Arthritis.

Dr Denise De Lord - Consultant

Dr De Lord qualified from University College Hospital, London in 1990 and completed her postgraduate training in the South Thames region. She was appointed as a consultant rheumatologist and general physician at the QEQMH in 2002. General rheumatology services are provided. Dr De Lord has a special interest in lupus and vasculitis and is educational and clinical supervisor for the ST3 and CT1 doctor. She has recently introduced (Autumn 2021) a Kent and Medway Regional Multi-Disciplinary Team approach for the approval of Tocilizumab for GCA and is further develioping the use of ultrasound for diagnosis of GCA.

Dr Abdul Khan - Consultant

Dr Khan has attained extensive experience in Rheumatology and General Medicine having trained in London Deanery in renowned teaching hospitals in London. He has expertise in General and Complex Rheumatologic conditions with ultrasound skills for the diagnosis and management of various Inflammatory Musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr Khan has a strong interest in research especially with Inflammatory Arthritis. Currently working as Consultant Rheumatologist and physician at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital Margate, involved in Musculoskeletal  ultrasound training  of Specialist Registrars and also supervisor of Core Medical Trainees.
