Services and procedures

Endovascular procedures are minimally invasive and may be described as ‘pinhole surgery’.

Flexible plastic catheters are navigated through blood vessels using the body’s arterial tree as a ‘highway’ to gain access to areas which can otherwise only be reached by making a surgical incision.

As there is very little pain, the patient may be awake during the procedure and return to normal activities very quickly.

A number of the procedures outlined on the two services pages are undertaken jointly by the specialist medical teams in both interventional radiology and vascular surgery. If you would like to view the services offered please use the links on the left hand side of this page.

What is Vascular Surgery?

Vascular surgery is a speciality of surgery focusing on diseases of the vascular system, or arteries and veins. The vascular surgeon is trained in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting all parts of the vascular system except that of the heart and brain.

Endovascular Theatre

In early 2008, we opened a brand new Endovascular Theatre at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

One of the first of its kind in the country, this new facility makes it possible to combine advanced x-ray imaging with a fully equipped operating theatre.
