We provide inpatient services at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, William Harvey Hospital and Kent and Canterbury Hospital (planned hip and knee surgery), plus day surgery at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital and William Harvey Hospital.

Activity levels for each of the sites vary but there are ten consultants at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital and 12 at William Harvey Hospital. All the consultants and their teams are trained  to deal with all types of problem but each team has one or two specialisms.

Specialisms include:

  • Shoulders

  • Spines
  • Hips and Knees

  • Paediatrics

The consultants and nursing staff in Trauma & Orthopaedics work very closely with the physiotherapists and occupational therapists, one such initiative is Enhancing Quality. As part of this a Joint School has been established at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital for patients due to undergo a hip or knee replacement. The joint school prepares the patients for surgery and manages their expectations regarding pain management and length of stay in hospital. A second joint school is due to commence at William Harvey Hospital.
